The real reason why you’re looking for another job.
What’s important to you? How can you trigger that energy that pushes you to take action, that energy that’s called motivation? How do you react to change and at what period of time you need that change to happen so the motivation factors to recover? What are the types of activities that can transform work into something that matters to you?
These are just some of the questions whose answers can help you avoid those jobs that do not suit you or they’re not offering you joy and fulfillment. Instead, I can guide you to find the job that will give you another level of satisfaction.
Anca came into my 4th-floor office, following a recruitment ad I posted on several pages of job sites on Facebook. A slender, elegant, confident girl that said to me from the moment she seated:
“I have to find another job. I can’t find the meaning of my existence. It’s increasingly difficult to wake up in the morning and go to work. I work hard and late every day and I’m extremely tired. I don’t want to work overtime anymore. On the other hand, the payment is quite well. It’s hard to give up the benefits they offer me.
But I saw the ad and I think I fit the profile described. It’s important to me that my work has an impact on others. I like to discover what goes wrong and find solutions to fix the problems. When I get a new task, first I find out how to do, what steps should I follow and then take control so I can finish it.
I don’t have the 2 years’ experience asked in the ad, but I know that after working 5 years in company “X” I need to make a change and start over so I can learn something new. In addition, if there is already a specialist in the company from which I can “steal the job” I assure you that I can obtain results within a relatively short time. “
To get the energy that pushes you to do things with pleasure and passion there has to be “personal congruence”, also called personal power, charisma or enthusiasm. Personal identity implies that all sides of your personality are in harmony with what you are doing in a particular moment. Perhaps the best way to describe congruency as to be easily understood is to illustrate the incongruity.
Sooner or later you feel fatigue and weight occur because of what you do is in contradiction with what you think, what is important to you. These kinds of thoughts often manifest in the form of a signal, an unpleasant sensation of “irregularity” felt in the chest or stomach. Maybe you have felt many times that you are not in harmony with yourself when one side of your personality wants something and another wants something else. You often notice this uncomfortable feeling after something goes wrong and you probably told yourself many times: “You know, at that time I had a strange feeling ….”
Now maybe it’s time to learn what to do in the moments when you are incongruent. A wise man once said that “you are the only person beside you wake up every morning … and since you will do this the rest of your life, this could be a reason to feel great and enjoy.” There are definitely times when you need to defeat your strength or repress some feelings, but you can not do it for long. There are times when you simply want to take care of yourself and you can take some time to pay more attention to yourself.
That is why MindCode advises you: “Pay attention to yourself and pay attention to your business.”
The first step of action on the management of incongruity is to notice that it’s occurring, so you can modify it until it’s not too late.
The second step, so you can harmonize yourself with your own inner voice is to know what is the mission or purpose that pulls you into the future. Steven Spielberg once said: “I wake up so excited, that I can not eat my breakfast.”
Many lack the feeling and the need to have a mission; they rather have a job or a career, they attend a school or go to work and raise families. Some of them are not even thinking about a mission because they don’t think they can get there. They wake up, go to work, pay their bills, wake up, go to work, pay their bills … and so on. And if at that moment their lives remain forever prey to fear and greed and they find it much easier to blame life for the job they have and for not having enough money, than to confront this fear. The feeling of fear will always haunt these people, and they will return to work hoping that the money they earn can calm their fears, which unfortunately does not happen.
I listened carefully; Anca was using short sentences, spoke as she ruled the world and the structure of her sentences were clear and clean. As she told me about the situations she wanted to avoid or escape, she was shaking her head slightly and occasionally her gaze remained empty. She wanted a new challenge, she knew that she is capable of discovering better solutions or variants as long as what she did make sense for her. When she was talking about change, I realized that her internal clock sounded the alarm about a year ago so here is the reason for lacking motivation and fatigue that she complained about. To run from the job where she felt trapped she would have accepted any new job as long as it provided the material comfort she was used to.
I gave up on the specific questions that I’m using for identifying someone’s profile and programs that run in the mind. I’ve already “decoded” in her story, in proportion of 90%, her interest filters, motivational patterns, working patterns, learning, persuasion and temporal patterns. And in addition, I identified some of the filters that limited her and cutting her wings. I was glad to find out that she enjoyed thinking in terms of results and that she was open and eager to learn.
The work meaning that Anca was looking for was linked to discovering her mission, especially that deep emotional reason to exist in the world. Finding the mission would help harmonizing her beliefs, values, actions and her own identity.
Understanding this I proposed an exercise.
We spent more than two hours together and at the end of the appointment she left with a smile on her face, knowing she is in “good hands” and that every question and every answer will give her the clarity, confidence and resources she needs. I was supposed to see her in a couple of days, to give her the interview results and show her what extent values and interests fit with the role and activities of the job for which I posted the employment ad.
Maybe it’s worth a moment to think about what you read above and ask yourself:
“For which of my passions I would be able to give money, I would pay for it to do it?”
From the moment you find your mission, it pushes you forward with power and awakens your passions, you wake up excited and you try to turn each day into a masterpiece.
