I started this article with a question in the title, a question that it may seem rhetoric and … it really is! 🙂
It’s a pertinent question asked by someone who is involved in a business. A question that resounds in the minds of many who run a business in Romania or anywhere else.
It’s hard to figure out that he / she is the person you were looking for the job that you just “put it” on the market, isn’t it?
Want the perfect employee, loyal, hardworking and which will bring you results? Do you want an employee that won’t complain about anything and will be involved 100% in his job? Do you want so much to believe that you have found the “one”, but actually you’re cheating your own senses, your feeling, your “nose”?
It can happen to you! It happened at least once (just once if they were very lucky) to all the managers and owners to fail believing they have finally found THAT perfect employee. Perhaps the person hired was really the perfect employee but only for a short period of time. You can’t say that the perfect employee can be perfect only for the first three months. Or six. Or nine.
The perfect employee is THAT employee if his positive actions remain constant over a longer period, like two years? Or three? Perhaps the answers are different, as well as expectations. We’re generalizing here but we know that every job is different just because it has specific requirements, and time flows differently. Employers feel different and we can’t compare the jobs or the people if they’re not 100% the same.
If you have an important job in your company and you pay well (for a better motivation and not necessarily to attract), you want a man dedicated to you, right? A man that has enough ambition to surpass himself, to amaze you through decisions or by results, to be particularly intelligent? You wish for that employee to be honest, handsome, modest, passionate about the job he’s doing?
Of course, if you don’t find one on the market, you could create one. You can choose from the employees that you already have in your business. Like a Master and an Apprentice, you can “train” that person yourself or you can send him to do all sorts of training programs, personal development courses, and experience exchange with others. I’m not saying that this version of your own perfect employee will pay off 100%. Nobody knows this until it’s done. This whole process of assembling your own workaholic Frankenstein it depends on many elements.
As always, you will work with your “client’s material”. If the material just seems to be good but it isn’t, and with time it tears apart or breaks here and there, deform or discolor itself and does not look good, you will lose all your spirit, won’t you? You don’t know where to go from here because you already invested so much time and money. Unfortunately, time goes by and it’s against you.
Supposing you found the perfect employee after having gone through all sorts of resumes, recommendations, cover letters and face-to-face meetings, testing the possible employees with all kinds of psychological questions. OR you created your own perfect employee and released him in the shallow waters of the business with great pride and hope.
For a while, everything seems to be quite perfect, but after that, you start to become somewhat paranoid. You’ll feel that you can lose your ace, the disciple who surpassed the master, your pride and joy. Why? Because good people come, do the job and go. So they say. But is this the reality?
Well, if they say so, what can you do? Maybe you should elaborate an invincible labor contract? Maybe you should offer big bonuses? Or to tart with the thought that you’ll have that person just for a limited period of time? I repeat that good employees don’t stand by you forever. They’ll always go where they can be challenged, where the money comes by itself because they will be appreciated for what they do.
I’m not saying that you, as manager or owner don’t know what to do. Maybe you do it right now or you already did it and did it well. Or you may not have done it well and you’re burned once or several times. What I mean is that we, the MindCode team, could have the answer to your future and present problems.
We have developed a program that solves your problems! It helps you to find your perfect employee! THAT employee that we all seek and can’t find or we fail to create.
